Why You Should Form Strategic Partnerships
Here's an example of how powerful strategic partnerships can be.
I had a call last week with a financial planner who is married to a wedding planner.
Do you see how those two businesses naturally complement each other?
I did, so I broke it down for the husband.
A wedding planner helps a couple plan their big day. And a financial planner helps couples plan the rest of their lives together.
In many instances, within two or three years of the wedding, the couple is going to have a child.
What parent do you know who doesn't want their child to go to the best schools in order to prepare them to go to the college of their choice?
How many new parents have any idea at all how to pay for that?
Don't you think it would be helpful to new couples to receive an "After The Wedding" type of planning session with a financial advisor? A session where they could get guidance on such things as retirement planning, college planning, saving up for a home, etc?
The Power of Strategic Partnerships
Forming strategic partnerships like this is an easy way for business owners to work together to deliver a much more complete solution than they could have delivered individually.
The most successful businesses focus on helping people achieve the bigger picture they have in mind for their lives. In this example, the bigger picture is a great wedding that's the start of a long, happy, prosperous marriage.
Regardless of how most marriages turn out, that's what most people are planning for going into it.
A wedding planner who builds a team of strategic partners who can help those new couples achieve the bigger picture they have in mind for themselves is a wedding planner who is way more valuable than one who only plans the wedding.
How To Make Yourself Invaluable To Your Ideal Client
For a wedding planner who genuinely wants to help their couples be successful, there are lots of opportunities to be a resource to them well beyond wedding day.
That wedding planner could maintain a relationship with a great real estate agent who can help the newly married couple find a home when it's time. And a great home improvement contractor and interior designer who can help the couple make their new house their own.
By staying on speed dial as a problem solver, that wedding planner will never be in search of clients. Past clients will be making more referrals than they otherwise would. And all those strategic partners who are receiving business from the wedding planner will be eagerly making referrals.
Running Your Business Shouldn’t Be A Lonely Experience
Running a small business is a lot more fun and easy when you play team ball.
Think about the big picture your ideal client is trying to put themselves in. They're hiring you to help them move towards something bigger they have in mind.
Who else do they need to help them get there?
Build relationships with those people so you can be a more complete solution provider for your ideal client, as well as a facilitator of new business for other business owners.
Can you see how doing business this way would be a lot more fun and profitable?
