More Than A Webcam: A Real World Look At The Logitech Brio

More Than A Webcam: A Real World Look At The Logitech Brio

This little camera is much more than just another webcam and in this case study, I’m going to show you how you can use it to grow your business.

This is a very simple setup for public speakers and other service-based business owners like professional development coaches whose primary product is your expertise.

We’re going to start by not just taking the camera off your monitor, but by taking it off your desk entirely, the way you see Erica using it here:

As you can see in the video below, once you remove the Brio from your desk, you open up a world of options for making different types of video presentations.

How Erica Did It

The Light Stand

It starts with a quality light stand.

The light stand is the fundamental piece of this setup that allows you to position your camera anywhere you need it to be. You need a quality light stand because a cheap one is not going to be stable.

The good news is quality light stands are not expensive.

The Super Clamp and Friction Arm

The Friction Arm is a fully articulating arm that can bend and rotate and pivot to allow you to position your camera at any angle.

The Super Clamp is how you attach the Friction Arm to the light stand (or to a table or lots of other things, whether they're flat or cylindrical).

These two tools combine to allow you to put your camera at the correct height, as well as make fine positioning adjustments.

Wireless Lavalier Mic

The Logitech BRIO has a built-in mic that is suitable for using the camera at traditional webcam distance.

But when doing more advanced camera positioning that puts you at a greater distance from the camera, it's a good idea to use a mic that's much closer to you.

The Rode Wireless Go II is an excellent choice.

Video Light

This is the key to improving the quality of video that any camera produces, including the Logitech Brio.

Quality video requires quality light. Period.

The light you see Erica using is an LED panel with a softbox attached.

I prefer this lighting setup because LED panels are a more flexible lighting solution than the ring lights that many people are using and they cost about the same.

A Podium

Or, in this case, a cocktail table.

Use whatever you have to elevate your laptop so you can use it while standing.

With your camera positioned independently of your computer, you are free to make presentations in a way that you otherwise couldn't.

Below are some more videos that Erica made that day.

We used the exact same setup in the same room by just repositioning the light stand to face the opposite wall so Erica could be seated to give these videos a different look and feel.

Erica Made 15 Videos That Day

Recording in batch is how Erica produces the marketing videos she needs to communicate about her coaching business and about her non-profit.

You can do the same.

For very little money and with very little space, you can significantly improve the quality of your video presentation.

Remember, this was all done with a "webcam" that, instead of being used on top of a monitor, was positioned where Erica needed it to be in order to make the videos she wanted to make.

Video is a part of conducting everyday business now. And upgrading your video setup so that your on-camera appearance matches the quality of the solution that your business provides is the next logical step for business owners looking to prosper in the new economy.

If you can plug a USB cable into your laptop, you can use the Logitech Brio to create business quality videos that allow you to communicate professionally with your target audience, just like you see Erica doing in this case study.

To see this technique in action, check out the video I made on the Logitech Rally camera. I recorded that video in multiple clips using the Logitech Brio.

Now It's About Your Message

This case study was an example of how simple it is from a technical standpoint to use video as a tool for growing your business.

Once your technical solution (lighting, audio, camera) is in place, there's the matter of developing your messaging strategy that will have you creating videos that will establish you as a trusted advisor to your ideal client.
