How To Network More Efficiently With a QR Code

Have you thought about using your own QR code as a sales tool?

I gave it a try at a networking event last night and was very pleasantly surprised at the results.

It seems that lots of people are aware of QR codes, but have never actually used one.

When I presented my QR code to people, in lieu of a business card, it was like magic to some of them.

I was using this QR code that sends people directly to my website:

For iPhone users, all that's required is opening your camera and pointing it at the QR code.

You can also create a code that will launch the person's email client and compose an email addressed to you with the subject line and body pre-populated with whatever you want.

You can do the same with a text message.

You can also use it to send people your vCard.

Lots of options for more efficiently getting to a second conversation than passing out business cards.

What About Android Users?

Some versions of Android have the QR code scanner built in, although you may have to go into Settings to enable it.

Those who don’t have the scanner built in will have to download an app. Here are two popular ones:

• Google Lens

• QR Code Reader

I suspect the QR code reader will eventually be built-in to all Android phones, just like Apple eventually did.

Why Not Give It a Shot?

A QR code really is a cool and efficient way to accomplish your objective for passing out business cards.

Once it’s built in to Android phones, you might find you no longer need business cards at all. That’s certainly the world I’d like to live in.

For now, if you’re on Android, just be proactive and download a QR code reader app so you can take advantage of this great time-saver.
