How To Get Your Business Off Covid Island
We all got shipwrecked on Covid Island at the same time.
But now people are starting to rescue themselves.
I'm starting to see an uptick in consultations.
Business owners are starting to accept that video is what they have to do now to stay in business and they're reaching out to me to find out how to go about it.
Instead of waiting for some massive rescue ship to show up, people are starting to build their own little boats to get themselves off Covid Island and get back to business.
Because of the nature of my work, I'm having the kinds of conversations that let me see that these little boats are being built that the general public will not see until much later.
Where I see this going is a trickle of little boat launches that will, at some point, turn into a mass launch that floods LinkedIn with videos from people who never posted video content before.
Anyone who used LinkedIn regularly before quarantine noticed how many more people started using it during quarantine.
I'm predicting that we're going to see something similar with video content in a few months because, for services-based business owners, video is the ONLY way to get in front of a crowd now.
The world is getting back to business.
The businesses that are going to succeed are settling into their new way of doing business.
If covid shut you down and you haven’t begun adapting your business in earnest, you’re going to be in some trouble because the world is moving on without you.
The Evidence Is Easy To Read
Anyone who has been following me for a while sees that everything I’ve been saying about video over the last couple of years is now true.
I’m no genius, I just looked at all the real world evidence, rather than ignore it.
Video was 80% of internet traffic before coronavirus. Do an internet search for “video marketing statistics.”
I've been telling business owners for years that watching videos is a consumer activity and that, if you run a business, you have to be making videos for other people to watch.
You cannot make money by watching other people's videos.
When You Stay Ready, You Don’t Have To Get Ready
Ignoring the abundance of evidence on the importance of having a video strategy is how so many business owners got their entire 2020 calendar erased in March and had no video capabilities to lean on to put paydays back on their calendar.
Those businesses are struggling and will continue to struggle until they either adapt or collapse.
It’s 2020
You should have already incorporated video into your business.
Now it’s 2020 AND we’re several months into living with coronavirus and we know it’s not going anywhere.
If you still do not have even a single video on your website, you really do have to ask yourself what are your objectives for your business and are you taking the obvious, logical steps to achieve those objectives?
Another Covid Wave Is Coming
Right now, the evidence I'm seeing is telling me that there’s a big wave of video content coming from people who have never previously posted even a single video.
I know this because I’m starting to have more and more conversations with these people.
If you have no video strategy and you’re not talking to me or someone like me about developing one, you’re setting yourself up for what could be an even worse second half of 2020.
As bad as things are right now for you in terms of year-to-date revenue compared to last year, it’s going to get worse if others in your industry hit the ground running over the next 30 to 60 days with video marketing campaigns promoting their new virtual service offerings and you’re still clinging to whatever business plan you entered 2020 with.
It’s one thing to be out of work when everyone is out of work.
It’s going to be an entirely different matter when your industry peers have put themselves back to work and you’re still sidelined.
Let that hole get deep enough and you may not be able to climb out of it.
We all got shipwrecked together, but I’m telling you, I’m having conversations with people who are building their own little boat to get themselves off Covid Island.
We crashed here together, but people are getting themselves off this island individually.
Unless you’re enjoying island life, don’t mess around and end up stranded on Covid Island by yourself.
